How to find NGC2232 using Orion

This guide uses bright stars first, then narrows the field for a telescope or binocular finder. Use Orion as the main sky landmark.

Follow the route from one recognizable star to the next until you reach NGC2232.

NGC2232 is 13° above the horizon toward the east.

Begin with Orion, then follow the reference stars toward NGC2232.

Recognize the characteristic star pattern of Orion before following the route.

Identify Saiph in or near Orion; the chart shows its position relative to the guide.

From Saiph, move about 6.7° toward the northeast until you reach HYG 29417.0.

From HYG 29417.0, move about 4.4° toward the northeast until you reach HYG 30772.0.

From HYG 30772.0, move about 0.1° toward the south until you reach NGC2232. This is the target field.
