How to find NGC6700 using LYRA

This guide uses bright stars first, then narrows the field for a telescope or binocular finder. Use LYRA as the main sky landmark.

Follow the route from one recognizable star to the next until you reach NGC6700.

NGC6700 is 46° above the horizon toward the northwest.

Begin with LYRA, then follow the reference stars toward NGC6700.

Recognize the characteristic star pattern of LYRA before following the route.

Identify Vega in or near LYRA; the chart shows its position relative to the guide.

From Vega, move about 6° toward the southeast until you reach Sheliak.

From Sheliak, move about 1.4° toward the southwest until you reach NGC6700. This is the target field.
