Mare Serenitatis - Lunar Mare
Mare Serenitatis is a lunar mare located to the east of Mare Imbrium on the Moon's near side. It is a large, dark basaltic plain formed by ancient volcanic eruptions following a massive impact event.
The mare has a diameter of approximately 707 kilometers and is surrounded by prominent mountain ranges, including the Caucasus and the Apennines.
Mare Serenitatis is estimated to be around 3.8 billion years old, and its relatively smooth surface is a result of the lava flows that filled the basin after the impact.
