How to find NGC1407 using Orion

Follow the route from one recognizable star to the next until you reach NGC1407.

NGC1407 is 31° above the horizon toward the south.

Begin with Orion, then follow the reference stars toward NGC1407.

Recognize the characteristic star pattern of Orion before following the route.

Identify Rigel in or near Orion; the chart shows its position relative to the guide.

From Rigel, move about 25.1° toward the southwest until you reach NGC1407. This is the target field.
