How to find NGC1535 using Orion

This guide uses bright stars first, then narrows the field for a telescope or binocular finder. Use Orion as the main sky landmark.

Follow the route from one recognizable star to the next until you reach NGC1535.

NGC1535 is 14° above the horizon toward the southeast.

Begin with Orion, then follow the reference stars toward NGC1535.

Recognize the characteristic star pattern of Orion before following the route.

Identify Rigel in or near Orion; the chart shows its position relative to the guide.

From Rigel, move about 4.2° toward the southwest until you reach HYG 23221.0.

From HYG 23221.0, move about 5.5° toward the west until you reach HYG 21644.0.

From HYG 21644.0, move about 4.6° toward the west until you reach HYG 20212.0.

From HYG 20212.0, move about 1.4° toward the west until you reach NGC1535. This is the target field.
