How to find NGC1550 using Taurus

This guide uses bright stars first, then narrows the field for a telescope or binocular finder. Use Taurus as the main sky landmark.

Follow the route from one recognizable star to the next until you reach NGC1550.

NGC1550 is 52° above the horizon toward the south.

Begin with Taurus, then follow the reference stars toward NGC1550.

Recognize the characteristic star pattern of Taurus before following the route.

Identify Aldebaran in or near Taurus; the chart shows its position relative to the guide.

From Aldebaran, move about 6.3° toward the south until you reach HYG 21402.0.

From HYG 21402.0, move about 6.3° toward the southwest until you reach HYG 20698.0.

From HYG 20698.0, move about 2.5° toward the southwest until you reach NGC1550. This is the target field.
