How to find NGC1730 using Orion

Follow the route from one recognizable star to the next until you reach NGC1730.

NGC1730 is 14° above the horizon toward the southeast.

Begin with Orion, then follow the reference stars toward NGC1730.

Recognize the characteristic star pattern of Orion before following the route.

Identify Rigel in or near Orion; the chart shows its position relative to the guide.

From Rigel, move about 6.7° toward the southwest until you reach HYG 23551.0.

From HYG 23551.0, move about 1.8° toward the southwest until you reach NGC1730. This is the target field.
