How to find NGC1788 using Orion

Follow the route from one recognizable star to the next until you reach NGC1788.

NGC1788 is 14° above the horizon toward the east.

Begin with Orion, then follow the reference stars toward NGC1788.

Recognize the characteristic star pattern of Orion before following the route.

Identify Rigel in or near Orion; the chart shows its position relative to the guide.

From Rigel, move about 3.5° toward the northwest until you reach Cursa.

From Cursa, move about 1.8° toward the north until you reach NGC1788. This is the target field.
