Mare Imbrium - Lunar Mare
Mare Imbrium is a vast lunar mare that forms a large, dark basaltic plain on the Moon's near side. It is one of the largest impact basins in the Solar System and is surrounded by mountain ranges including the Apennines, the Carpathians, and the Alps.
Mare Imbrium has a diameter of approximately 1,145 kilometers, making it the second-largest mare on the Moon. It was formed by a massive impact event about 3.85 billion years ago.
The mare is composed of basaltic lava flows that filled the basin after the impact, creating a relatively smooth and dark surface compared to the surrounding highlands.
