How to find M49 using Leo

Recognize the characteristic star pattern of Leo before following the route.

Identify Denebola in or near Leo; the chart shows its position relative to the guide.

From Denebola, move about 1.8° toward the east until you reach HYG 58221.0.

From HYG 58221.0, move about 5.7° toward the southeast until you reach HYG 59608.0.

From HYG 59608.0, move about 3.9° toward the southeast until you reach HYG 60804.0.

From HYG 60804.0, move about 0.8° toward the southeast until you reach M49. This is the target field.
